\n\nPerhaps above all a leader needs to care. We’ve all heard the expression “they don’t care how much you know until they know how much you care.”\n\nIn fact, workers rate a caring boss even higher than money or perks. People join organizations, but they leave bosses.\n\nGallup’s research has shown how long that employee stays and how productive he is while he is there is determined by his relationship with his immediate supervisor. In fact, one of the questions they use to measure the strength of a workplace is:\n
- \n
- Does my supervisor, or someone at work, seem to care about me as a person?
\n
\nWhen fear, the opposite of love and caring, exists a company cannot flourish. So a leader must express care in their actions and give permission and set the tone for others to do the same. Showing others you care, makes them feel important. This in turn drives commitment and engagement.\n\nSuccessful leaders care.
