Each September my son returns to school and is asked to write an essay on what he did on summer vacation. Here’s how mine reads after a fabulous week on a houseboat in Lake Shasta with family and friends.\n
- \n
- Catapulted off the houseboat slide, screaming the whole way down
- Learned to paddle board
- Lost the electronics – who needs TV or XBox
- Smiled, giggled and laughed
- Avoided any visits to the ER – although we had a couple close calls, there is a reason they say to go down the stairs facing in
- Built a roaring bonfire and roasted marshmallows on tree branches for the perfect smore
- Got stung by a bee
- Slept on the upper deck under the stars
- Taught kids how to wake board and water ski
- Played cards
- Danced – learned the Dougie, the Jerk and some new Zumba moves
- Jumped off the top of the houseboat and lived to tell
- Fished
- Floated
- Had a run in with the sheriff, you really DO have to be 16 to ride the Seadoo by yourself
- Got the houseboat stuck and then unstuck – three times
- Ruined one prop, thankfully when we were leaving
- Uplugged from email for 10 days – seriously I did
- Took several hundred pictures to capture these precious moments

There is still plenty of summer left. Do yourself a favor and take a break – you deserve it!
