Each September my son returns to school and is asked to write an essay on what he did on summer vacation.  Here’s how mine reads after a fabulous week on a houseboat in Lake Shasta with family and friends.\n

    \n

  • Catapulted off the houseboat slide, screaming the whole way down
  • \n

  • Learned to paddle board
  • \n

  • Lost the electronics – who needs TV or XBox
  • \n

  • Smiled, giggled and laughed
  • \n

  • Avoided any visits to the ER – although we had a couple close calls, there is a reason they say to go down the stairs facing in
  • \n

  • Built a roaring bonfire and roasted marshmallows on tree branches for the perfect smore
  • \n

  • Got stung by a bee
  • \n

  • Slept on the upper deck under the stars
  • \n

  • Taught kids how to wake board and water ski
  • \n

  • Played cards
  • \n

  • Danced – learned the Dougie, the Jerk and some new Zumba moves
  • \n

  • Jumped off the top of the houseboat and lived to tell
  • \n

  • Fished
  • \n

  • Floated
  • \n

  • Had a run in with the sheriff, you really DO have to be 16 to ride the Seadoo by yourself
  • \n

  • Got the houseboat stuck and then unstuck – three times
  • \n

  • Ruined one prop, thankfully when we were leaving
  • \n

  • Uplugged from email for 10 days – seriously I did
  • \n

  • Took several hundred pictures to capture these precious moments
  • \n

There is still plenty of summer left.  Do yourself a favor and take a break – you deserve it!
